Almost everyone knows cockroaches are one of the pests that have a very negative impact on humans. Due to the negative impact on humans, many people try to eradicate the cockroach and hope that this pest does not exist in the world. However, cockroach species that are insect pests for humans are only 1% of the total 4500 cockroach species in the world. Many other types of cockroach species in the external environment have a positive impact on the environment and indirectly have a positive impact on humans. Here are some positive impacts of cockroaches on the environment:
1. Decomposition
The majority of all cockroach species are detritivores. Since many cockroach species live in the soil, their main food is dead plants. The nature of the cockroach`s feeding habits has a positive impact on the environment, which can decompose complex dead plants into simpler substances as well as the role of microbes. This also gives cockroaches a role in soil biology.
2. Nitrogen Cycle
Due to their ability to decompose organic matter, especially dead plants, cockroaches play an important role in the nitrogen cycle. Cockroach feces, which feed on dead plant organic matter, provide a source of nitrogen that can be released into the soil. And the nitrogen source released into the soil has benefits for plants.
